Solar HVAC: What You Need to Know

Hi, my name is Suzanna. When the old HVAC system in my home began to fail, I decided to invest in a new one. Over the past few years, I have become increasingly environmentally aware, so I wanted my new HVAC system to be as green as possible. I contacted an HVAC contractor and discussed what I wanted, and they suggested I have a solar powered HVAC system installed in my home. I did a little more research and I was really impressed by the solar option as it would save me money and help to save the planet. I decided to start this blog to encourage others to explore solar HVAC systems.

Four Signs That Your Heating System Needs Repairing

by Yolanda Mason

One thing everyone needs in winter is a working heating system, but things can always go wrong, and the sooner you identify any problems the easier they will be to fix. Here are some signs that your heating system may be in need of repair.

Strange sounds

Your HVAC system should not make a lot of noise. If you start to hear new sounds coming from your system, it could be a sign that something is wrong. A rattling sound could mean that the motor or blower is broken, whereas a squealing sound could point to a problem with the bearings. Any new sound, however, could be caused by a malfunctioning component, which could be dangerous and lead to a breakdown of your system. These noises should be investigated as soon as possible.

Constant adjustments

A second sign that you may have problems lies with your thermostat. If you find yourself adjusting the temperature more than once or twice a day, your system is probably not running efficiently. This is only likely to get worse until it malfunctions completely. Any change in the number of times you need to adjust your settings is a cause for concern.

Increasing bills

A sudden hike in your bills is the third sign of trouble. It's a fact of life that prices tend to go up, but a failing heating system will work inefficiently and will take more time to heat up your home. This can lead to a sudden sharp rise in your bills. If such a rise can't be explained by ordinary price rises, you should call in a professional repair service to identify and fix the problem.

Too much cycling

Lastly, you should pay attention to how often your heating system starts and stops running. The system should bring your home to the right temperature, and keep it there. It shouldn't need to switch on and off constantly, with only short breaks between each cycle. This may be a sign of a broken compressor, or the unit may just need to be cleaned. In any case, it is a sign that it is time to bring in a professional to check the unit.

Any heating system can go wrong, but older systems are much more prone to problems. If you are in any doubt you should contact a professional maintenance and repair service. They will check your system and make sure it is in full working order, so it can protect your family throughout the winter.
